I decided to add a new sub-category to the My Art section of this website. It's called Doodle Art. Doodling is great for stress relief, gaining new ideas for other projects/tasks and just having fun. I hope you enjoy this new section. It's what I like to refer to as freestyle art or brainstorming...sort of like what I do when coming up with ideas for my novel (and am still in the brainstorm phase of that!).
Here is a sample of what you'll see:
When looking at the gallery, you might have to linger for a few minutes to see more than a bunch of lines or whatever. What do you see when you look at these pictures?
I love Pinterest. I can sit and look at interesting pictures for hours if given the time, which, on a bad Lyme day, I tend to do.
Recently, Fairy Tale fan art caught my eye, in particular an hourglass by rchella. I wanted to put my own spin on the work...changing the hourglass and giving it a unique background. After a long night of vigorous drawing and a second night spent working on the details while at Starbucks, I completed the piece. By the way, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I do love Starbucks. Except when the noise of the giggly teenagers can't be drowned out by the smooth base pouring from my headphones and when couples at neighboring tables need to totally get a room instead of swooning and driving this single lady up the wall.
Anywho, the name of my most recent creation is "Melt Into Me". It captures the essence of a boy trapped in a cold, depressing world melting into the warm, tropical paradise of a cheerful mermaid (and she's not the kind of mermaid that sends sailors to their death, mind you). It's sort of a love story in the making, providing a sense of hope and anticipation. Not everything in the world is cold and gray.
Tough to believe that a month has flown by already. But it has. While "cleaning out my closets", I found an original pen sketch that I did back in 1995. One of my favorite places is Cape Hatteras. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is the tallest in the Outer Banks. I can attest to that as I've walked each step to reach the beautiful view from the top. I'm not sure if this is going to re-kindle my artwork, especially when I've been working on Sudoku and other puzzles to hopefully keep my brain from turning to mush when I'm older.
I've created a new page under My Art...Pen & Pencil Drawings. There aren't any drawings there yet, but there will be in the near future. :-) My art is the reason why I've slacked on blogging. That and the fact that treatment for this stupid disease kicks my arse every now and then and limits what I can and can't focus on.
When I was in high school, art was one of my favorite classes (that and writing), so I'm trying to get back into both as it's fun for me. It's an amazing feeling when my art reaches people on a deep level...I love hearing how the artwork makes them feel and how they interpret what they see. The Christian-based artwork has a tendency to evoke a lot of warm and fuzzy emotions and being honest, I cry whenever I draw or paint a Christian-based work...one could say that's the Holy Spirit working in me and I welcome that strong connection to the Lord. My favorite Christian-based work thus far is "Touched", a piece for Pentecost. It's on the Multimedia page. Worth viewing.
Sometimes I work from home, sometimes when I'm feeling well I work from Starbucks. I'm sure people wonder why I have to take up a third of an 8-chair table (when I'm blessed enough to actually get one of the tables...I compete with students and professionals for the prime spots!). I always have a lot of tools and such with me. Starbucks visits are important to me for other reasons, too...they help keep me connected to the world outside the walls of my home in an environment that isn't overwhelming to my senses. Lyme has really affected my nerves so there are few places I can tolerate without herxing. It's sad, being an extrovert at heart, but in my mind, I'm making small steps towards improvement. And that's a win for me every time I walk through the door and stay.
So, rounding back to the original reason for this blog entry...I've added to the My Art section. Pen & Pencil Drawings is the page name. Keep checking because right now I update the My Art pages with new art on a pretty consistent basis.
Thank you for following me. If you have any suggestions or would like to be a guest blogger on either or both of my blogs, i.e., this personal blog, Everything Lyme, please contact me. If you have any suggestions for artwork you'd like me to attempt, I'm open to special requests...just contact me.
Hi everyone! I'm very pleased to announce the new additions to www.EverythingUnscripted.net. My Art! My art will always be a work in progress...a true artist's work is never complete, right? That's just part of the skills strengthening process while having fun. And that's key: having fun.
There are a lot of people with chronic conditions, chronic illness, a massive amount of stress, are sleep deprived, and/or so on. We all need an outlet, a place where we can simply be free. Free of the stress. Free of the pressure. Free of the stuff that weighs us down. And that's why I decided to share my art. Perhaps to inspire others to find their outlet, their happy space amidst stress and whatnot.
Here's a brief sample of what you'll find in the new section, as well as a list of what is featured there:
My dad asked me what I enjoy most. That's a tough question and really I can't play favorites, especially knowing some of these things are new for me while others I have more experience with.
What do you do to relax and unwind? Does art appeal to you as a stress-reliever and fun activity? Do you have any reasonable special requests you'd like me to tackle? If so, please contact me. I'd be happy to hear from you.
