I remember the moment when I first removed the colorful cube from its packaging. Shiny. Perfect. And then my face fell when it transformed into a jumbled chaotic mess. The cube was primed for solving, yes. But I preferred the beauty of a well-organized cube. Some solve it in under 30 seconds. Without the manual. Psychos. For many of us, though, it doesn’t quite work that way. There are two choices: struggle to figure it out without guidance while possibly swearing like a sailor in the process, or Google the instructions/instructional video. Can be frustrating when the instructions/instructors are unclear. And I just LOVE those who have the gifted ability to make newbies feel like idiots. No one wants that, especially when giving something new a shot. It’s understandable why those individuals give up and toss it in the trash or bin of long-lost items.
At one time, life was like Rubik's classic 3x3 cube. Complications, yes…but with patience and some guidance, it was resolvable. With time, even more so in 2022 it seems, more challenges and experiences have presented themselves, making that classic 3x3 cube seem like a walk in the park. There are several other types on the market now. Here are a few of the trickier cubes: the mirror cube (silver or gold), a dodecahedron (a polyhedron with 12 faces…but there’s more to it than that), software cubes (obfuscation at its best), virtual game cubes, life-size 3D cubes (MIT is conducting some amazing experiments with that one) and more. Some, Einsteins and stubborn alike, skip the user manuals and go directly to problem-solving.
Before we know it, we wake up staring full on at a life as complex and chaotic as a dodecahedron cube. I’ve been there. It’s like living in the upsidedown with the Stranger Thing’s kids. Trapped. Trying to find a way home. Praying Vecna doesn’t pull me to the dark side. Countless people are in this place. Either accepting as is, ignoring, suffering in silence and/or desperately wanting a way out. Broken relationships. Tough jobs. Dwindling bank accounts. Diseases and illnesses. New crises each and every day without a break.
There is some hope, though. Did you know that there’s a user manual for life? Perhaps someone tried to “sell" it to you, but forcefully—no one enjoys anything radically slammed in one’s face. I think it’s one reason why Christianity gets a bad rap and has dwindling numbers, which is sad on all accounts. Perhaps you feel that you don’t have a spare second in the day. Or perhaps you don’t care. That’s all valid.
I promise, I won’t slam this in your face. I just want to offer up a tip to help with your life.
Believe it or not, the Bible isn’t outdated as much as one might think. Yup, very relevant in 2022. Think of the Bible this way. Have you ever been to one of those quaint family-owned bookstores that has a display of “mystery” books? The books are wrapped in plain kraft paper with three or so words describing the book itself. If you haven’t read it, think of the Bible like that…a user manual wrapped in plain kraft paper, but with an amazing amount of descriptive words. Do any of these topics sound relevant to your life and/or interesting?
Many Bibles have a topic index to help narrow things down, should you require it. And Google is a good tool for pinpointing relevant Biblical books/chapters. Also, if reading printed text isn’t your thing, Audible or the (free) Holy Bible app are perfect sources.
Believe when I say that while yes it may seem like just an old book, the Bible is the best user manual for life. You never know, it might surprise you. Perhaps try a little at a time. What you find might just save your life one day. :-)
